We work executing sustainable development projects to improve the quality of life of Venezuelans.

Fundación Tierra Viva is a Venezuelan non-profit, non-governmental organization that has been executing and promoting environmental education and sustainable development projects since 1992.  Initially, we worked under the legal figure of Living Earth Venezuela, and since 1996, as Fundación Tierra Viva.

Areas of Work

Socio-Environmental Management

This area is focused on educational, informative and citizen participation activities, related to priority topics such as solid waste, water and climate change, as well as others of relevance to the quality of life of different sectors of Venezuelan society.

Products with History

In this work area, Fundación Tierra Viva promotes the marketing and commercialization of products made by indigenous artisans from two projects: the Indigenous Women Entrepreneurs (Mujer Indígena Emprendedora) and the Weaving Hope (Tejiendo Esperanzas) group. We also strengthen the associative fabric of the groups to guarantee sustainable development around these projects and promote the cultural value of the Warao, Wayúu and Yekwana ethnic groups.

We are Biodiversity

In this area we carry out educational, informative and infrastructure activities to promote knowledge and conservation of biological diversity in Venezuela.  We base our work on the importance of animals, plants and ecosystems to improve the quality of life of the country’s inhabitants.  Among many services to the people, biological diversity guarantees the availability of water and electrical energy, generates jobs, and is a direct and indirect source of food and medicine.

Within the framework of these areas of action, since 1994 Fundación Tierra Viva:

– Has edited 76 publications.

– It has reached some 20 thousand people, including students and teachers of basic, secondary and university education in both urban and rural communities.

– It has worked with coffee and cocoa producers, as well as communities of the Warao, Yekwana and Wayúu ethnic groups.

– It has incorporated 100 cocoa producers in the states of Aragua and Carabobo into the agro-ecological production of cocoa.

– With the project “Entrepreneur Indigenous Woman” in the Orinoco Delta, it has achieved that more than 300 Warao artisans have turned weaving into an income opportunity for their families.

– It has developed a number of strategies to promote knowledge and conservation of urban biological diversity, including interpretation trails, butterfly gardens and exhibitions.
